Electrocorticography (ECoG)

Digital medicine for treatment

Electrocorticography (ECoG) is a one type of the electrophysiological monitoring method using electrodes placed on the surface of the brain to record neuronal activity. Graphene is known as biocompatible and flexible material. Thus, Graphene-based MEA is suitable for ECoG, because of its biocompatibility and low electronic noise. Furthermore, these Graphene-based MEA is designed to be non-invasive to overcome penetrating brain damages of conventional ECoG system.

We implanted the Graphene-based MEA to the certain brain region which enable us to record neural activities and stimulate at the same time. This process may bring benefits in terms of 1) treating the brain diseases such as Parkinson’s disease and stroke 2) tracking and mimicking the signals when rodents communicate by ultrasonic vocalization.

Ultimately, we can better understand neuronal activities and provide specialized treatments to each patient through implanted Graphene-based MEA.
